Jasper mountain bikers are making sure their competitors at the upcoming 24 Hours of Adrenalin don’t forget about their strong performance last year by sending even more solo riders to this year’s bike race in Canmore in July.

Taking first place and third place in the men’s five-man group was Jasper Source for Sports and the Freewheel Fatties, respectively, last year. Jasper also had a first place solo finish from Pamela Roy, and a second place solo finish from Dave MacDowell.

This year, Jasper will have an even stronger presence on the trails as they are sending nine solo riders, some of whom competed on teams last year.

Dave MacDowell, Brian Rode, Beau Michaud, Vidal Michaud, Pamela Roy, Chris Peel, Derek Anderson, Andrew Bovard and Todd Wolansky are all heading to Canmore to compete in the 24-hour race.

The race, which brings athletes from all over North America and even some countries overseas will have a limited number of soloists, about 100, MacDowell said. That means Jasper has a big representation of ten per cent.

“It’s going to be super cool,” said MacDowell, mentioning it is great to show that Jasper is a good cross-country biking area.

On top of the solo riders, Jasper will be well represented in the team events with two expected teams from Freewheel Cycle, and teams from Jasper Source for Sports, a team with Glen Leitch and Paul Hardy and a joint team from Papa George’s and some Canmore riders called the White Mountain De’d Dogs.

Two teams will also compete in the Death Race this year, which comes a week before the 24 Hours of Adrenalin, including a new Jasper women’s team.
