A former Jasper resident has been named as the assistant coach of the Milwaukee Admirals, the farm team for the Nashville Predators.
Ian Herbers, 42, was named to the position by Predators General Manager David Poile last week. Herbers replaces Brad Lauer, who was recently hired as an assistant coach by the Ottawa Senators.
Herbers spent the past two seasons as head coach of the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL, where he led the team to a 73-60-8-3 record. He also spent three seasons with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League.
“I am very excited to add Ian to our staff for this upcoming season,” said Admirals head coach Lane Lambert in a news release. “He has been involved in the game at all levels, from juniors all the way up to the NHL and he brings vast experience to us as a player, assistant and head coach. I am looking forward to working closely with Ian to continue the winning tradition that we have had here in Milwaukee.”
Herbers ended a 12 year professional hockey career in 2004. He totalled five assists, 79 penalty minutes in 65 NHL games with Edmonton, Tampa Bay and the New York Islanders. He also played for the Cape Breton Oilers and the Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League.
Herbers was the Buffalo Sabres tenth pick in the 1987 entry draft. After playing two seasons of hockey in England, he finished his playing career with the Flint Generals of the UHL. |
