Beer could soon flow a little more freely during Jasper Wolves games.
Given the team’s woeful start, it’s the first part of good news for the club’s fans all year.
The municipality has agreed to allow the Jasper Curling Club to apply for a Class B stadium licence to sell beer at the Jasper Activity Centre during Wolves games. Currently, alcohol is available in the lounge, however this proposal will allow a beer garden to be set up during games.
In order for the proposal to move forward, the curling club must now apply for a commercial general liability policy. The town was told it would be easier if a third party took over the beer garden. If the municipality ran the beer garden, they would be required to provide security for the event.
The initial proposal came from the Wolves, who asked for a section of the arena to be cordoned off for a beer garden. However the team said they’d rather the curling club handle the proposal, who were happy to pick up the idea.
Culture and recreation manager Yvonne McNabb said the municipality doesn’t have to approve the curling club’s application for a licence, however they do require the lease to be changed. McNabb said the curling club was willing to take on the application, which costs about $400.
“It could take weeks to get that stuff in line,” McNabb said.
The municipality, the fire inspector, the health inspector and the Alberta Gaming and Liquor board all have to sign off on the stadium application. |
