photo712.jpgEight local Jasper teams were joined by 16 other teams to make the annual ladies bonspiel at the Jasper Activity Centre a huge success.

The women had a great weekend, with celebrations continuing long after the rocks cleared the house.

Colleen Green, a Jasper curling club member who curled at the event and helped with registration, said the bonspiel was a fantastic one.

“It was awesome, girls just want to have fun,” she joked.

And fun is what they did have – the women enjoyed food, drink and dancing after they left the ice all weekend. The tournament ran from Friday morning all the way to Sunday afternoon to give each of the 24 teams ample ice-time.

Green said the Jasper ladies put on a great show, which was complimented by the great ice that was put in by Wally Kortzman. Teams travelled from as far away as Manitoba, with many Kamloops, B.C. teams also making the journey to play in the annual bonspiel.

“It was great,” Green said.

The event featured three different divisions to play for, an A, B and C event. The results of the weekend are as follows:

A event

   1. Check Mark Construction, Gunn, Alta.

   2. Irwin Rink, Kamloops, B.C.

B event

   1. Lalonde Rink, Hinton

   2. Karpo Rink, Jasper

C event

   1. Olsen Rink, Kamloops, B.C.

   2. Marquis Rink, Jasper, Alta.
