Salooners at top of league

The Timberland Salooners are undefeated at the lead of the Jasper/Hinton men’s fastball league 2008 season with four wins so far.

Trailing behind are the Gus’ Pizza Scorpions with two wins, one loss, the Astoria Bongs with two wins, three losses, Evil Dave’s Grill Jets with one win, three losses, and the Fox Creek Falcons with one win, three losses.

At halfway through the regular season, league president Sean Livermore said it’s too early to tell which team will come out on top.

As for Livermore’s team, the Jets, he said, “We’re doing fine.” After coming in second place in last year’s playoffs, the team started off the season with high hopes to bring it home this year.

June 19 the Jets faced the Salooners in a close game until the sixth inning when the Salooners shot ahead.

“We tied it up until the sixth,” said team captain Ray Forget. “They had kind of a freaky sixth inning where they got all the runs.”

The Salooners won 13-4.

The teams play Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. in Jasper and 8 p.m. in Hinton. On June 26 the Salooners face the Bongs and the Scorpions take on the Falcons.
