Jasperite Stephanie English successfully completed the 2009 Subaru Ironman Canada in Penticton last weekend coming within half-an-hour of her target.
At 32 years old, English was competing in her first ever Ironman and said she was really excited to take part in the race, in an interview with the Fitzhugh last month.
For English, competing in the Ironman was not about making a podium finish but instead putting her mind and body to the test.
During her interview, the Jasperite said she would be happy to complete the race in under 14 hours. Her final time was 14:29:04, which placed her 1850 of 2595 competitors.
While her time may have been just over her target, it was four hours behind the first competitor in her category (women’s 30-34) who finished the race in 10:23:38.
English said she plans to enter the event again next year, and will be joined by a couple of other Jasperites, including Jasper mayor Richard Ireland. |
