The TransRockies Challenge finished up in Canmore on August 14, and Jasper’s very own Corey Wallace placed second overall in the TR3 which ended after the third stage on August 10. 

Not only did he ride to a second place in the single division, Wallace hopped back on his bike on Saturday and did the 43-kilometre seventh stage on a team with Jonathon Firth of Canmore, finishing fifth overall in 2:43:24. 

Wallace finished the three stages in 8:42:55, just over 10 minutes off first place finisher Max Plaxton of Victoria. 

Also in the open men’s category of the TR3 was Stephen Hanus of Hinton, who finished 52nd overall out of 83 riders in 4:57:26.

In the TR3 open women, Barbara Schmidt of Jasper was 19th overall, finishing the three stages in 18:05:19. 

Dean Etienne of Hinton continued his excellent run at the TransRockies in the TR3 masters men’s 40 and over division. Etienne was fourth overall in a time of 7:45:38. 

In the team event, which completed all seven stages of the TransRockies, Jasper’s Bear Paw Bakery team was 15th overall in the open men division. Matt Staneland and Victor Vassallo completed the race in 32:21:47.

Les van der Roest of Valemount finished 17th overall in the men’s 80+ division. It took 36:56:35 to complete all seven stages with partner Greg Bergen of Surrey. 

Pam Roy and Vidal Michaud of Jasper, who made up Bike for Jasper Oxygen, finished in 13th place in the mixed team division. They completed their trek in 48:23:05. 

The TransRockies set out from Fernie, B.C. on August 8. Riders travelled 400 kilometres to Canmore for the finish on August 14.
