Skiers make successful turns on Porteous

Despite the cold and windy weather, the Snow Valley Provincial Nancy Greene Ski League races took place Saturday up at Marmot Basin on Porteous Way.

Approximately 120 competitors between the ages of eight and ten braved the elements and took to the slopes for a fast-paced, all-out speed and skill extravaganza.

“I think our team had an excellent race,” said Patrice Fortin, head coach for the Jasper Ski Team, Nancy Greene Program. Given that teams from Calgary and Edmonton train “twice a week and also on the weekend,” said Fortin, “we did very very well.”

Even though it was a competition, the bottom line is to make sure the kids enjoy their sport, said Fortin.
