Competing against the best in the province on their home turf, the Jasper gymnastics club distinguished themselves with a solid sixth place finish at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) team gymnastics competition at the Jasper Activity Centre on Sun, June 14.
Facing off against 50 competitors, the Jasper gymnasts fared well as a team, posting a fourth place finish on the vault, sixth on the beam and eighth on the floor. Nine teams competed in the event.
“It was such a success,” said Nadia Wassef, head coach of the Jasper gymnastics team. “It was tough considering the level of gymnastics. We did well considering.”
Scores are based on team performance at the provincial championships, Wassef said.
Wassef said hosting the championship gave a number of local gymnasts a chance to see what competing at the provincial level was all about.
“Not all of the kids are at that level. We did very well considering the circumstances.”
The venue proved to be perfect for the provincial championships, Wassef said.
“It was the perfect spot. There was lots of room and it works very well for this.” |
