The Jasper Social Norms marketing campaign “Jasper Enjoy Responsibly” was launched last Thursday at the Downstream.
In conjunction with the Skinny’s first anniversary party, Michael Quick, social norms co-ordinator, was onsite to show off three bright and colourful posters that will be scattered around Jasper’s landscape for the next eight weeks.
About 100 posters will be put up throughout town, in pubs, bars, restaurants and other places that young people congregate.
The aim of the campaign is to show young adults in Jasper the reality of life in Jasper – safe sex habits, drinking habits and partaking in physical activity.
The statistics shown on the four posters are: 80 per cent of young adults living in Jasper use a condom every time or almost every time they have sex; 69 per cent of young adults living in Jasper drink zero to three times a week, and; 91 per cent of young adults living in Jasper never destroy property or vandalize.
With more than 400 people taking part in the research portion of the campaign, Quick will be busy conducting intercept surveys to see if the message is credible and what Jasperites take away from the campaign.
For Quick, it was important that young adults are involved in every section of the campaign, from surveys, to focus groups, designing posters and naming the campaign.
The campaign slogan was created by Jasperite Sophie Bishop who won an Africatown bike, donated by Freewheel, for her efforts.
The media campaign was designed by the combined efforts of Alisen Charlton, a local photographer, and Nicole Gaboury, a graphic designer. |
