The Town of Jasper has released new statistics which give a picture of what current property values are like in the Town of Jasper.

The statistics were released during council’s vote to pass a school levy taxation increase for the 2010 Alberta School Foundation, which was formally announced in Dec. 2009.

On average, the assessed value of residential properties in Jasper have gone up. Residential properties have increased by 3.4 per cent on average, but non-residential properties have decreased by 4.0 per cent. In total, this means that property assessments are within 0.2 per cent of last years values, according to town statistics.

The increase in residential property values means that home tax collection will be higher in 2010 by 1.8 per cent than in 2009. In 2009, $8,963,347 was collected by the town while in 2010, $9,121,293 will be brought in according to town estimates.

Taxes are due on July 15.
