An upcoming dinner and dance in Jasper for the Weekend to End Women’s Cancer is offering women a chance to raise money to fight the disease.
“It’s just a night to have some fun,” said Wanda Freland, a sexual health and harm reduction officer with HIV West Yellowhead, who is helping organize the event. “All for a good cause.”
The fundraiser is a joint effort between the Jasper Jugs, a local women’s rights group, and HIV West Yellowhead, a group which seeks to promote healthy sexual living.
According to Freland, the money raised will go towards the Weekend to End Women’s Cancer, a major walk-for-cancer event that is happening around Canada at the end of the upcoming summer.
The money raised will be donated to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and will be spent on making progress towards freeing the human race from women’s cancers.
The event will be held on March 27 at Papa George’s restaurant in Jasper. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. There will be a DJ and dancing, a silent auction featuring work from Jasper artists, and, overall, a sense that raising money for good causes doesn’t have to be boring.
“We want to raise awareness about women’s cancer, but we want it to be fun too,” said Freland.
For the men hoping to pitch in for a good cause and meet some ladies at the same time, look elsewhere: this event is ladies only. Men can still buy tickets for their lady friends, however.
Tickets are available at Bombshell at 611 Patricia Street and the HIV West Yellowhead office, located upstairs in the Clocktower Square at 622 Connaught Drive. |
