HINTON:
Elders Tea
The Hinton Friendship Centre will host its 15th annual Elders Tea on Friday, Feb. 17. Local businesses donate prizes for the event, where local elders come for lunch, tea, bingo, door prizes and socializing. This free event is for elders only. ‘Monkey Bonez’ gymnastics
There will be gymnastic games, a bouncy house and prizes – not to mention a homemade spaghetti lunch – at the family centre (across from the bus depot) on Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free event is part of the 25th Annual Winter Magic Festival and is put on by the Children’s Indoor Playground Society, Heart ‘n’ Sole Gymnastics and All Terrain Fitness. The family centre is located at 137 North St.
Open mic nights
The Old Grind is offering a place to perform, 30 minutes at a time. Novice and seasoned musicians can sign up for a time slot between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Feb. 17.
The open mic is described as a positive and supportive environment where artists can bring their own instruments of choice, and “just plug and play.” The evenings run the first and third Friday of each month. Thangha Nepalese art reception
Everyone is invited to join Daya and Sharad Karmacharya to learn about the Nepalese art form known as Thangha on Feb. 21 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hinton Municipal Library. Minor hockey meeting
A Valemount Minor Hockey Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9. Call Carl Foreman at 250-566-9176 for more details and the location.
Snowmobile drag races
Note the new date: Saturday, Feb. 25. Classes include: stock, improved, mountain, pro, amateur and local racers. For kids there are the junior amateur and mini-sled classes. Registration runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Valemount Visitor/Interpretive Centre. There is a fee to register, except for the mini-sled class. There is no pre-registration. The races start at 11 a.m. and are expected to run until about 4 p.m. at the Canoe River Campground.
Snowmobile poker run
New date for this one too: Sunday, Feb. 26. The poker run is set to run from about 9 a.m. to about 1 p.m. starting from the Westridge parking lot. The ride will run through the ;ower Westridge area and raise funds for the B.C. Lions Society for Children with Disabilities. The trail is a low-elevation and clearly marked 30-kilometre loop with beautiful views of the valley and village below. Complimentary hot chocolate available at the warming hut around the 20-kilometre mark. Prizes will be awarded for best poker hands, most pledges, rider categories and ghost riders.
MCBRIDE:
‘Cafe Show-And-Tell’
The Robson Valley Community Learning Project will host one of its Cafe Show-And-Tells at the McBride Trading Co. on Feb. 17. The project’s mission is to advocate for life-long learning within the community. Everyone is welcome at the cafe, which is set to run from 10 a.m. to noon.

The next meeting of the McBride Secondary School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) will take place on Monday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in the library.
DUNSTER:
Family Dance date change
The February Dunster Family Dance will be moved to the second Saturday of February, Feb. 11, due to a scheduled concert at the Dunster Fine Arts School on the first Saturday of the month.
The dances are normally held the first Saturday of the month. They run from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Dunster Community Hall. Dance instruction runs for the first hour, followed by a potluck snack break with tea and pop provided. Then participants dance the rest of the night away. The dance is open to all ages and there is an admission fee for anyone over the age of 14. Guests are asked to bring some finger food for the snack time and everyone is expected to help clean up afterwards.
Yoga classes
Yoga has resumed at the Dunster Community Hall, with classes running on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is a drop-in fee.
The classes are aimed at anyone who wants to relieve some stress, “work out the kinks” and work on their concentration and flexibility. It’s recommended to bring your own mat and wear loose, comfortable clothing. For more information call Kathryn Smith at 250-566-4022. |
