Jasper’s most creative chefs attracted hundreds of taste testers, Friday night, during the 24th annual Chili Cook-Off.

Out of the 18 pots of bean and beef concoctions, Jasper Park Liquor was voted the best chili by a panel of four judges: Dave Osborne, Ian Vaydik, Peter Boyne and Marc LeBlanc. Second place went to Jasper Park Lodge, which was also the winner of the People’s Choice award, and third place went to Tourism Jasper.

Of course, there were more prizes to be had, as Jasper doesn’t just throw a typical cook-off.

The top prize for the best booth and costumes went to Jasper Dental Clinic for their interpretation of last year’s royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

With a booth like a castle and an entire wedding party, including Pippa with her signature hat and ladies pleading that Will chose them instead, the clinic was hard to match.

But Whistler’s Inn, last year’s winner, did give them a run for their money, coming in second place with their Smurf-tastic booth, complete with blue chili, Gargamel, Poppa Smurf and a mushroom house.

And then there were the ladies from Wild Mountain who came in third place, on their first attempt in the cook-off, for their rugged cabin-style booth.

The booth winners were chosen by a panel of judges from Mountain Park Lodges, the organizer of the event.
