The Grade 11 French class at Jasper Jr/Sr High will be travelling to Quebec in 2006, and thanks to a second grant received by the school, their tenth-grade counterparts will be joining them.
The students have been paired with a school in Baie-Comeau, Quebec. The Quebecois students will spend one week in Jasper (January 28 to February 4) while local kids will make the return trip after spring break.
The new grant comes from SEVEC (Society for Educational Visits and Exchanges in Canada), an organization that funds the travel costs of programs like this one.
Jr/Sr High Principal Dale Karpluk is happy that more students will be able to take advantage of the exchange.
“It’s a great program,” she said. “It connects the young kids of Canada with others across Canada and gives them the chance to learn about different parts of the country.”
Jasper students have been involved with similar exchanges in the past, but this is the first time in recent history that a group will be going to Quebec. Read the Fitzhugh for ongoing coverage of the exchange program in the new year. |
