A volunteer group dedicated to re-opening traditional trail systems in the Willmore Wilderness Area and concerned with recording the knowledge of outfitters, trail riders and guides is planning a major event in Jasper this spring.
It will host a Willmore Wilderness Mother’s Day Extravaganza to honour the Women of Outfitting, including several life-long residents of Jasper, Brule and Mount Robson. The event will be held on May 13, at the Sawridge Hotel.
This is one in a series of events intended to honour the surviving outfitters of the area. Initially the thrust of the organization was to re-open historical packtrails in the park. The organization quickly started to expand by giving workshops and courses. The Foundation has raised funds to bring the Alberta Trappers Association to offer youth the Trappers Education Program.
