A woman was struck and killed by a train just east of Jasper last night.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Wed. Dec. 9 east of the rail bridge in Jasper.

Foul play is not suspected, according to RCMP.

The RCMP is looking for assistance identifying the woman. She is described as being in her mid-30s with strawberry blonde hair tied back in a ponytail with a green elastic. Her hair also appears to be dyed orange. She was wearing a white winter jacket, jeans, hiking boots a black balaclava and gloves. A black backpack was discovered near the scene, which police assume also belonged to the woman.

According to Jasper RCMP Staff Seargeant Dave Maludzinski, she appeared to be dressed for the cold weather.

The incident is considered the first rail fatality in more than 30 years in Jasper. RCMP are still investigating the incident.
