Brewers from across Alberta came together in October to brew a special Unity Brew that is now on tap at the Jasper Brewing Company.
The idea spawned from Michele Lowney, brew master at the Grizzly Paw Brewing Company in Canmore, who wanted to showcase the diversity of fresh micro brewed beer.
Jasper Brewing Company was quick to get on board and brew master Dave Mozel headed off to Canmore to help out with the concoction.
With ingredients donated by Canada Malting, Mozel was on hand to help out with the making of the Dark Rye Indian Pale Ale.
“We united and we brewed,” he said.
For him, this beer is like no other the Jasper Brewing Company has made before and is particularly special because it features all Albertan Malt.
“It’s completely different, because of the rye in it,” he said noting that rye is not a mainstream ingredient for beer.
The end result is a very hoppy beer, according to Mozel. “It’s a dark full-bodied hoppy Indian Pale Ale.”
Mozel was particularly proud of the idea because it was the first time that, to his knowledge, brewers in Canada have come together to raise money for a charity.
The Jasper Brew Pub will have three kegs on tap, with the beer being sold at regular prices and all the proceeds going towards the MS Rockhoppers. |
