Jasper’s Santa’s Anonymous has kicked off for another year and is seeking donations from the community.

The fundraiser, which helps 40 families a year celebrate the holiday season, collects toys, food and other items for families in need.

Organizers are attempting to pull together several fundraisers for the event, as a greater level of demand is anticipated because of the recession.

“We anticipate a few higher numbers and we’re planning for the higher side of 40,” said this year’s Santa’s Anonymous co-ordinator Patti Pavlov.

In the past, Santa’s Anonymous fundraisers have included The Santa train, where children get the chance to meet Santa Claus on the Via Rail train, the gift drop-off and the mitten line, where children can describe what they want.

“The mitten line has specific requests, and anyone not sure what to donate can check the line to see what to buy,” Pavlov said.

Others unsure what to give can donate a turkey, which proves to be a big help to many families.

The gift drop-off will occur again this year, with drop off boxes at the library, hospital, elementary school and activity centre.

Pavlov said businesses and individuals in Jasper have proven in the past to be extremely generous, and have supported the campaign for years. The fundraiser is also looking for volunteers. Those interested in helping can contact Pavlov at santas_anonymous@yahoo.ca.
