Jasper Town manager George Krefting has announced his retirement.

Krefting plans to leave the municipality in October 2010, which would allow his predecessor to be in place before the next municipal election.

The news came as part of the Nov. 3 regular council meeting.

Krefting said he’ll keep busy during his retirement, and said the staff at the municipality will ensure his replacement has an easy job.

“I’ve got lots of plans,” Krefting said, who’s building a second home in Arizona. “As an administrator, you get used to making lots of long term plans.”

The 2010 operating budget includes funds to find a replacement for Krefting, who will be away on vacation for much of the budget process. Krefting left immediately following the council meeting.

Manager of Finance Alice Lettner will run the budget process in his absence.
