Valemount is celebrating the fourth annual Spring Festival from June 10 to 12.

The festival, put on by Tourism Valemount, was formerly the annual Bird Festival. Its name was changed two years ago to celebrate what the entire town has to offer. 

This year a few new events are being offered, and some old favourites are back. An ATV ride will tour the Sea to Sky Trail, with views of Kinbasket Lake and Mount Robson. The 55-kilometre group ride will support trail improvements by donation. 

The kid’s headquarters will be improved this year, and bird feeder building will once again be a part of the festival. A concession will be held as well, this time put on by Tourism Valemount and featuring ice cream and cotton candy. 

A kids’ Chickadee Run will be held. The foot race is another popular event returning this year, and will be 400 metres for the short version, and one kilometre for bigger adventurers. All participants will get a prize. 

Joining the festival this year is the Valemount Quilters Guild Annual Quilt Show and Tea. The event is usually a part of the annual Valemountain Days, but that festival has been moved to the fall. The guild joined on to the Spring Festival to continue the tradition. 

The Valemount Curling Club will be hosting the annual dance this year as a fundraiser for the club. 

Jennifer Robinson, marketing co-ordinator for Tourism Valemount, said the popular canoe trip had to be cancelled again this year due to a lack of water on the marsh. 

A number of hikes and walks will be held throughout the weekend festival to suit the adventurer in everyone.
