The Foothills Male Chorus will be hosting their annual cabaret at the Guild Firebay in Hinton on Jan. 22.
A Midwinter’s Night Cabaret will feature the Foothills Male Chorus, the Blue Diamond Quintet and the Pilgrims Octet singing local favourites and a few new tunes, laced with individual performances from the groups’ singers. Songs include Fare Thee Well, Love, Blue Bayou, Springtime in Alberta and much more.
One of the male chorus’ members, Bob Udell, says they used to focus on Canadian music, but have opened up the door to songs from all over the world this year.
“It’s going to include some new numbers that people haven’t heard before,” Udell said.
A Midwinter’s Night Cabaret will also celebrate the Scottish holiday, Robbie Burns Day. It is a celebration of “Scotland’s favourite son”, poet Robert Burns.
The cabaret used to be held every October, but is now being moved to the January slot at a new location. The move to the first month of the year was meant to fill a time slot that is usually quiet for entertainment in Hinton.
“There’s not a whole lot going on in January,” Udell said.
The night will include a cash bar and refreshments with the three separate groups performing.
This won’t be the only performance of the year for the singers. On April 8, the Blue Diamond Quintet will join the Bowgeste Fiddlers in Jasper, and the Foothills Male Chorus will host another night of entertainment on May 7 in Hinton.
A Midwinter’s Night Cabaret will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the The Guild Firebay |
