With the sun slowly setting behind the mountains to our west, we all took a moment to stop and treasure a view.
A slight breeze blowing keeps our bodies cool as we amble up the peak of Whistlers Mountain – a short 45 minute hike.
From the top of the true peak, a flat summit means you can dance around, enjoy the views, maybe even have a picnic lunch for two.
Maybe the easiest way to get up a mountain, Whistlers Tramway means anyone of any fitness level or ability can cruise to the (almost) top of the mountain.
For those on tight schedule, it’s also a quick way to see an incredible view of Jasper, and the entire park from west to east, north to south.
Once off the tram, there’s a few different trails you can take which let you explore the ranging vistas – from Mount Robson in the west, which hopefully you’ll be able to see, or south all the way down the valley with Cascade Mountain in the far distance.
For one looking to beat the crowds, a later evening arrival at the peak of Whistlers Mountain meant it was a perfect time to explore without fighting for the views with your fellow travellers.
Another bonus was the sunset, catching the last tram down meant as we slowly descended so did the sun – settling quietly behind the Rocky Mountains and beyond.
Our guide was happy to answer questions about the history of the tram, which first opened in the summer of 1964, the surrounding mountain ranges, the town and anything else we could throw at her.
Of course, on the way up they give you a good run down of the surrounding area while you gasp in awe at the views.
To reach the tramway from town, just head south on Highway 93 down the Ice-fields parkway, take your first right and follow it all the way to the top. Your tram awaits! |
