The annual Christms Craft Fair saw Jasperites out in large numbers, picking out goodies and locally made products. Greg Van Tighem, who organized the Christmas Fair, said 600 people, not including children, entered the fair.
A huge success of the day was the kid’s area, put on by Marianne Garrah. Kids decorated gingerbread houses while their parents shopped. Eventually, the area was shut down after they ran out of ingredients.
“That went really well,” Van Tighem said, adding that a steady flow of people kept the fair hopping. “Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.”
The Summit Singers performed for the crowd, which Van Tighem said was a nice touch.
The vendors left happy, and four charities benefited from the event. École Desrochers’ Grade 10 class received funds to help out with their planned trip to Vietnam. Other charities included IOTAD, the MS Society and the Children of Autumn Foundation.
There are still some door prizes from the fair that have not been claimed, check the Fitzhugh classifieds for numbers. People have until Dec. 3 to claim their prize.
Pattie Pavlov, with Santa’s Anonymous, was at the door with the other elves, selling raffle tickets for the Via Rail prize of two first-class tickets to Edmonton, with a return trip. The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald is donating a weekend getaway as a part of that trip says Pavlov.
She adds that the elves were able to sell 250 raffle tickets.
“We sold more this year than last at this event,” says Pavlov. “We’re really excited by the support.”
Raffle tickets are still available through Pavlov and will be up for sale again during the tickets sales for the Santa Train. |
