Municipality hosts annual Christmas bash at the Activity Centre
Carolers greeted attendees at the Annual Municipal Christmas Party held at the activity centre on Dec. 19.
The mayor, Richard Ireland, began the evening with introductory remarks recognizing and celebrating the value of municipal staffers in the community. Mayor Ireland also introduced the members of council - except for councillor Brenda Zinck who escaped from the cold to Maui - as well as Rob Merrifield, MP for Yellowhead, in addition to other VIPs in attendance.
Although it took quite a long time for all the tables to get called to the buffet, the feast prepared by Shirley Dorin, of Shirley’s Place, was worth the wait. The perogies were definitely a favourite and local high school seniors volunteered to help with the food service.
After dinner, Minister Merrifield spoke to the audience about hope and that he thinks Ottawa will calm down in the new year. He also presented a cheque on behalf of heritage minister James Moore, to Todd Noble, president of Jasper Tourism and Commerce, for $15,600. According to Noble, this money will help improve Jasper in January, providing more entertainment, especially for planned street parties.
Although Merrifield was in Jasper to give, he also received as it was his birthday. Mayor Ireland presented Merrifield with a Jasper municipal vest and guests sung him happy birthday.
The band, Suzie Q, played the night away. |
