Crash underlines importance of child safety seats
On Oct. 7 a traffic incident at the crossing of highways 16 and 93 sent two people to hospital, and saw one driver charged with dangerous driving.
At 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 7, two vehicles were involved in the crash. A truck heading eastbound on Highway 16 ran a red light and collided with a north bound four-door sedan on Highway 93. The sedan was carrying two adult passengers aged 25 and 36, as well as a seven-week-old infant.
The driver and passenger of the sedan, both residents of Edmonton, were transported to the Seton General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and later transported to hospital in Edmonton. The infant was uninjured. Both the driver and passenger of the truck suffered no injuries.
One of the passengers of the sedan was extracted from the car by the Jasper Fire Department using the Jaws Of Life. EMS also responded.
Cpl. Tony Dolhan, of the Jasper RCMP, said the crash underlined the importance of having a properly fitted child safety seat.
The driver of the east bound truck, a 45-year-old man from Salmon Arm, B.C., is being charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. He will appear in court in Jasper on Feb. 10. |
