The Municipality of Jasper is planning a number of events to celebrate Waste Reduction Week from Oct. 18 to 24.
Janet Cooper, environmental stewardship co-ordinator for the Municipality of Jasper, says one of the most exciting events happening is the opening of a new “Recycle My Phone” program that starts on Oct. 21. The program will kick off at the Jasper Activity Centre, which will now be the drop-off location for used cell phone, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
More information on the program, including instructions on how to erase important data from your phone before dropping it off, can be found at www.recyclemycell.ca
On Oct. 16, the entire town can take part in the Curbside Take It Or Leave It event. Home owners are encouraged to bring any unwanted, but still usable, household items to the front of their property with a sign saying they are free. Residents can then wander around town and pick up items they would like to keep, saving items from heading straight for the landfill.
Oct. 19 and 20 will be a great day to get out and rake up those leaves, as the municipality will be sending around trucks to back alleys to pick up bundled tree clippings and shrubs, and bags of leaves. The municipality requests that all leaves are stowed in bags, not left to be raked up, and left in back alleys, or in front driveways of houses that don’t have a back alley.
