Oct. 5 marked World Teachers’ Day, designated in 1993 by UNESCO as a way to acknowledge the essential role teachers play in the education of children. In honour of the day, the Grade 6 class at Jasper Elementary volunteered to tell the Fitzhugh about what makes their teachers the very best.

Cheyenne Henderson, 11, said she remembers her Grade 2 teacher Mme Paulette as being very special. “She was one of the nicest teachers I ever had,” she said. “She made school fun and gave us a big welcome in the morning.”

Ana Olsen, 11, said Mme Judith makes school interesting because she embraces unique teaching methods. “She does a lot of different stuff,” she said. “Her social studies this year is fun because you learn a lot of stuff about elections and everything.”

Megan Warren, 10, is a moderator for Mrs. Morgan’s class, and said the students are extremely polite when she assists during assemblies and other functions. “I don’t know what she did, but they are the most well-behaved class,” she said. “I watch them during assemblies and never have to tell them to do anything.”

Megan added it’s important for students to let teachers know they are appreciated. “It’s hard because if you were teaching kids you have to relate to them and know how to handle them, it would be a hard job,” she said.
