Gymnasts and curlers get their space on either side
After a month of construction, the wall dividing the Curling and Gymnastics Clubs has been erected.
The Gymnastics Club has moved in on the north side of the wall and the flooding has begun on the south for the Jasper Curling Club.
Doug Albert, The Jasper Curling Club President, said he was happy to work with the Jasper Gymnastics Club to do what is best for the community. “We’re all members of the community, we understand that if there is a need for something like the gymnastics or something like that we understand that the space was probably under-utilised,” said Albert.
Although Albert does admit that their yearly bonspiels in March will be affected as the number of curling sheets has been cut in half, other than that and a later start than normal he said the impact will be minimal.
While flooding and painting will continue throughout the week, the ice will first be used by the curlers in December. Albert recognizes the slightly shorter season and has adjusted the membership costs accordingly. Their registration numbers are looking to be similar to last year’s, around the hundred mark.
Nadia Wassef, president of the Gymnastics Club, was very excited about the move into the new area. The club moved a lot of their bigger items on the Friday before the doors were put up in between the two areas.
To celebrate its new location the Jasper Gymnastics Club will hold a “gym-warming” party on Nov. 30. The Curling Club hopes to do the same to entice a varied audience to the game. |
