The Terry Fox Run was held on Sept. 19 in the rain and cold, but a record turnout still showed up.
Organizer Stephanie English was happy with the turnout of 38 people, up from 30 last year. The runners helped bring the total donations to $4,700. The run started from Centennial Park and went along the Discovery Trail.
English had hoped to raise about $5,000 this year, but was impressed with the funds raised by the dedicated runners.
“We had people go way beyond,” she said.
Many tourists took part in the run, including a group from Spain. Most of the runners ran the five-kilometre route instead of the longer eight kilometres. Some people decided to cut the run short and end at their houses along the Discovery Trail.
“I just wanted to thank them,” English said of the 38 participants.
Organizers who weren’t running, shut down a little early to escape the cold. English hopes no one was missed if they showed up later.
“We apologize if we missed anyone but we did close down about a half an hour early,” English said. |
