On Tuesday morning, Jasper’s Centennial time capsule was presented to the Yellowhead Museum by Parks Canada. It was a year in the making because “you don’t want to rush it,” said Ken Walker, liaison between parks and the museum. The time capsule will spend the next 99 years in the Yellowhead Museum’s archives. Here’s a top ten list, presented in no particular order, of some of the capsule’s contents.
1) Jasper National Park Centennial belt buckle.
2) 2007 Centennial collector’s pin.
3) Mountain Parks attendance calculator of total visitors, 2007.
4) National park pass, 2007.
5) Three copies of first edition Jasper National Park Centennial postage stamp - one copy with signatures of those officiating at the unveiling including Ron Hooper (Superintendent, Jasper National Park), Ron Grier (Local Area Superintendent, Canada Post), Jade Pinet (Local Student Coordinator), Nicole Ward (Chairperson, Friends of Jasper National Park) and Brian Storseth (MP, Westlock - St. Paul).
6) The official Centennial map, Jasper National Park, 2007.
7) Jasper National Park of Canada Management Plan, 2000.
8) TMX pipeline project photos.
