The Mount Edith Cavell day use area is finally complete after a summer’s worth of improvements.

A celebration will be held to mark the completion of the upgrades on Sept. 10 at the day use parking area at 2 p.m.

Activities include a guided hike along the breathtaking Path of the Glacier Trail beneath Mount Edith Cavell and the Angel Glacier. An official ceremony will follow.

Rob Merrifield, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead and Minister of State (Transport) will be speaking on behalf of Jim Prentice, Environment Minister and the minister that is in charge of Parks Canada.

There will be a ribbon cutting to officially re-open the trail.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided, and the first 50 visitors will get a Parks Canada 125 Celebration stainless steel water bottle.

The improvements that were completed over the summer included re-paving of the 11-kilometre road leading to the day use area, parking and day use upgrades and a new bridge to cross over the streams that flow down between the Path of the Glacier’s loop. The upgrades cost $4 million and were funded in part by Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

The Mount Edith Cavell day use area provides access to a series of trails that offer stunning mountain views.
