Fall Fair set for Sept. 8

The Fall Fair is once again being held this year at the Jasper Activity Centre on September 8.

Organizer Greg Van Tighem said the fair will once again have the favourites, including home made jams, pickled goods, jellies, crafts and more.

“It’s kind of a big variety of vendors that show up,” Van Tighem said.

The fair serves as a fund-raiser for The Jasper Rockhoppers Bike Team, of which Van Tighem is captain. Admission will be $2, with the proceeds going to the MS Society.

“It’s just a good opportunity for people to get fresh home grown goods at a reasonable price and also support MS at the same time,” Van Tighem said.

The fair often has sign-up booths for Girl Guides  and other clubs in Jasper. Van Tighem said he hasn’t confirmed they will be there this year, but hopes they will attend. He does however expect a few high school students to be peddling jewellery and other items.

The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. on September 8 in the curling rink at the activity centre. Potential vendors can still sign up for a table by picking up a form at the activity centre.

RCMP investigate stolen sign

Jasper RCMP are investigating the disappearance of a church sign from the front lawn of the Pentecostal Church at 822 Connaught Dr. Police believe that the sign was stolen.

According to a press release from Jasper RCMP Cpl. Tony Dolhan, the sign disappeared sometime over a month ago, during the late evening hours of July 10.

Pastor Mark Hendricks at the church said he was disappointed to see the sign go. The church had used this sign to replace an older sign which was somewhat blocking the vision of cars turning onto Connaught Dr. The church thought they were helping people with the sign that has now been stolen.

Pastor Hendricks also said the sign is completely missing, which is a little unusual. In the past, people have knocked the sign off its plinth, but never stolen it completely. Whoever was able to get the sign off of its platform apparently also took the small sign, made of plywood and about 18 inches by 24 inches, home.

The sign announces the name of the church and Pastor Hendricks asked that if anyone sees it in a basement or a bedroom, could they please return it to the church. He does not want to press charges. He just does not want to have to pay the costs of developing a new sign.

If you have any information about the stolen sign, Jasper RCMP are also asking you to contact them directly at 780-852-4421 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
