Hinton mans gets fine for fishing in Patricia Lake

A Hinton man has pleaded guilty to fishing in Patricia Lake without a permit at Jasper Provincial Courthouse and will pay $150 for his crime.

Bryan Harasymiw of Hinton, who has no record of this kind of behaviour, was caught illegally fishing in a boat by Parks wardens on Canada Day this year. Harasymiw told the court on August 26 that normally he buys a license to fish, but this year he did not.

He told the court that he knew that it was illegal, he just thought there would be a penalty but no fine.

“Well, what’s the penalty then? They just hold you down and smack you?” asked Judge Norheim, incredulously.

Harasymiw said he thought the penalty might have something to do with being banned from the area.

He told the court that he could pay his fine that day.

Rowdy partier gets $150 fine

A man has been fined $150 for his raucous behaviour at the Honeymoon Lake campsites during the end of June.

Thomas Boden pleaded guilty at Jasper Provincial Court on August 26 in front of Judge Don Norheim.

Parks wardens were called to the campsite sometime late at night after getting calls about a large party. Beer bottles were being thrown and smashed and some campers could not get to sleep.

Wardens apparently made numerous warnings to the party goers, but the warnings went unheeded.

While the campsite was not registered in Boden’s name, he admitted to the court that he had been causing trouble that night.

He told the court he was not the only trouble-maker though.

“Instead of charging everyone, they just charged a few,” he said.

Still, Judge Norheim told Boden that he was a party to the offense and worth punishing.

Boden told the court that he could pay his fine that day.

Three people found with three kilograms of marijuana

An Edmonton man charged with possessing over three kilograms of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking appeared in Jasper Provincial Court on August 26.

Cody Krahn is also facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, a firearm, along with ammunition, and possession of marijuana resin for the purpose of distribution.

Two other people are also facing charges related to the large amount of marijuana.

April Mitchell and Miner Van Dusen are both also facing one count of possession of a weapon and one count of possession of narcotics with the purpose of distribution.

The three individuals were arrested on June 16 in Jasper.

Only Krahn appeared in court on August 26. He made no plea as he has not yet retained counsel in the incident. He was given his disclosure package from the crown prosecutor and will appear again in court on October 14 to enter a guilty or not guilty plea in the matter.
