Winter festival celebrates 20th anniversary
Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 20th annual Jasper in January celebration.
Running from Jan. 16 to Feb. 1, the festival will include live comedy, music, dogsled demonstrations, the taste of the town, hay rides, wine tastings, the chili cook off, and for the first time this year, a huge street party along Patricia Street, in addition to a whole host of other winter activities.
Some features at the weekend street parties are ball hockey, human foosball, live music, face painting, marshmallow roasting, street performers, ice sculptures, an ice maze and beavertails.
Marmot Basin will also offer reduced-price lift tickets for the entire two-week event. Most events, including the weekend street parties are family-friendly endeavours.
Note that on both Jan. 17 and 24, Patricia Street will be closed beginning at 2 p.m. in the afternoon and by 4 p.m., no cars will be allowed to Park on Patricia Street between Hazel and Cedar Avenues. The family street parties begin at 6 p.m. and go until 10 p.m..
