Valemount business owner determined to commence Jasper service

The hope of having a regular bus service between Jasper and Valemount will prevail if you ask Louise Gobert, owner of Valemount Shuttle Service, despite the fact an application to expand her businesses to McBride was recently turned down.

“All of the province (British Columbia) is divided up into districts and the district we fit into is Kamloops to McBride, and they said there are 57 taxis servicing this area so there was no need,” she said, adding she thought it was just an “oversight and they don’t realize that there is no taxi in McBride.”

However, this has not discouraged Gobert who is currently working to prove that there is no taxi service in McBride and said she should get the approval.

Gobert, who originally came to Valemount at the request of Canadian National Railways, said she hopes to have an inter-community bus service between Valemount, Jasper and Hinton that will run twice a week for about $25 per person.

“Our intention was to have a shuttle that takes people down to Jasper for various things, maybe even swimming lessons for the school,” she said.

“Jasper has stuff to offer that we will never have to offer. We have stuff to offer your visitors that you won’t be able to offer because you’re a park,” she said adding that she hopes to gain the support of Jasper Tourism and Commerce.
