Two St. Albert teens whose car was struck and dragged by a tractor-trailer north of Jasper on Highway 16 on April 3, walked away from the wreck unscathed.
Jasper police and fire departments were called to the scene of the accident, about 40 km north of the townsite, on Friday afternoon just before 2 p.m.
According to Const. Roy Kennedy of the Jasper RCMP, both the car and the semi truck were traveling westbound toward Jasper at the time of the crash. The semi pulled out to overtake another vehicle. The car, which was ahead of the semi, pulled out to pass as well, right into the semi’s path.
As the car was dragged, it also hit a pick-up truck. The car was dealt extensive damage and Kennedy said it would likely have been written off. The occupants of the car were lucky not to have sustained injuries, he added.
The Jasper Fire Department removed fuel spilled on the highway, as the tractor trailer’s tank was punctured in the collision.
The driver of the car received a provincial violation ticket for passing while unsafe, said Kennedy. |
