Two people are in hospital following a destructive three-vehicle collision involving two pick-up trucks and a semi-trailer on Highway 16 in the Moose Lake, B.C. region, just west of the Alberta border.
According to Valemount RCMP Cpl. Trevor Prosser, around 9 p.m. on Friday, July 9 an east-bound pick-up truck collided with a west-bound semi-truck. That truck flew into the ditch, near the train tracks while the semi-truck and trailer rolled over on the highway. The twirling semi-truck then rolled over top of another truck, crushing it before coming to a smashing finish.
Debris from all three trucks was strewn all over the highway Friday night and Saturday morning, blocking traffic in both directions.
The semi-truck driver was able to walk away from the wreck without major injury, said Cpl. Prosser. The two other men from the pick-up trucks are in an Edmonton hospital in serious, but stable condition.
The two pick-up trucks had apparently been recently purchased at a truck auction somewhere in B.C. The wreckage of both trucks still had auction stickers affixed to their windshields.
Cpl. Prosser said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the incident. He said the RCMP is still investigating the accident and trying to determine what went wrong.
Jasper RCMP sent out a news release around 1:47 a.m. on the following Saturday morning advising that traffic from the Highway 16-Highway 93 intersection was closed off due to “a serious motor vehicle accident.” |
