The operations staff played throw-the-reporter-out-of-the-tram as part of their evacuation training on Wednesday, April 22.
After a winter filled with upgrades to Tramway facilities, such as new bathrooms at the summit of Whistlers Mountain, staff were gearing up for the 45th season of ferrying passengers into the high alpine.
Todd Noble, sales and marketing manager for the tramway, led the evacuation demo with a fresh crew of Aussies and one Canadian. Every member of the operations staff has to learn how to evacuate tramway passengers. Each person strapped on a harness, and sped down 100 feet towards the ground. It was quite a rush.
The Jasper Tramway opened at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 25 with a spring blizzard that dumped about five centimeters of snow in half-an-hour. The day eventually cleared revealing the mountains encapsulating the townsite. |
