BBQ tips for a safe grilling season
As temperatures over the weekend broke the 20 degrees mark, grilling season has officially begun and it’s now time to make sure that your barbecue is in good working order.
Speaking with deputy fire chief Ron Stanko, two of the keys to safe bbq operation are to check for leaks in the propane line with soap and water and keep your propane tanks out of direct sunlight due to temperature concerns.
Some other tips include:
• Keep your grill a safe distance from your home.
• Make sure you know the location of the closest watering hose or fire extinguisher.
• Do not start a propane grill with the hood down.
• Watch alcoholic beverages around the grill, they are flammable.
• Don’t leave your grill unattended and make sure children understand it’s hot.
• If you experience a bbq fire, shut off the propane valve, close the lid of a charcoal grill, or unplug an electric grill.
• If the fire involves a propane tank, evacuate the area and call 911. |
