Bikes disappear Print

Shawn Gramsma, who moved to Jasper for the mountain biking, will be riding something less than satisfactory this summer after his two prized mountain bikes were stolen from Cavell Apartments on the night of May 3.

Somewhere between the hours of 6 p.m. on May 3 and 6 a.m. on May 4, Gramsma’s two bikes were taken from the locked room where he had been told to keep his bikes, as they weren’t allowed in his apartment.

“I would have much rather had them in my apartment with me where I could see them everyday,” he said.

Entry to the room was gained through a broken door on the back side of the storage area, according to the police report issued May 12.

Gramsma said he didn’t realize the room was not monitored and had been led to believe the entrances to the room were under video surveillance.

“I didn’t notice there was a door back there before,” he said, “so I didn’t know there was unmonitored entrance to the room.”

As well as Gramsma’s two bikes there was also another bike stolen at the same time.

The three bikes stolen were all full suspension and their details follow:

• 2009 Kona Hei Hei 29 Deluxe, 19 inch frame, silver and white in colour

• 2008 Transition BottleRocket, baby blue and white in colour

• 2005 Kona Kikapu, 16 inch frame, silver and white in colour

Anyone with information regarding this instance should contact the Jasper RCMP at 780-852-4421 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
