Young Jasperites were treated to something a little bit new and exciting last Wed June 10 when they headed east to Morro Slabs to go rock climbing.
The adventure was a celebration of youth accomplishment, organized by Kim Wallace from École Desrochers. Students from Building Leadership and Actions in Schools Today (BLAST) used their award money, from a provincial award they won for a variety of tobacco reduction initiatives, to go climbing with Jasper Activity Club for Kids (JACK).
Guided by professional Matt Reynolds, the students and the Fitzhugh were taught how to rappel down the rock face and then how to climb back up.
The group spent about four hours enjoying the sunshine and scaling a variety of climbs on Morro Slabs before heading home. |
