The governing school board for Jasper’s Elementary and Jr./Sr. high school will have a fresh face in time for the 2009/10 school year after it discards the 14 year-old name and logo it currently holds.
After the new name (Grande Yellowhead Public School Division) was announced earlier this year, the board gave the design reins to Elk Island Public School to come up with a logo.
And while students designed the new logo, Nicole Merrifield, communications manager for the board, said the main cost for the re-branding was the graphic design team, which cost the board about $10,000.
In an effort to keep costs to a minimum, the board has aimed to use the last of its current supplies by this summer so that newly branded material can be ordered without any waste, said Merrifield. All schools in the region are being asked to do the same thing.
The logo was selected from the division’s re-branding committee and approved by the board of trustees, at the June 3 meeting, who voted 4 - 2 in favour of the new logo. Jasper’s representative, Betsy DeClerq, voted for the new logo and said she thought it was “marvelous” - artistically and as a representation of its schools.
“What I really like about this is the staff, students and the public had input into it and this is the one that they really chose.”
DeClerq said she thinks the logo “represents our area... I think it represents the whole region, with the mountains coming out of the Y and the valley around the G, it’s like the river valley that runs through the rest of the area and the foothills and I particularly like the sun, because it’s like the beginning of a new day.”
“And, the colours are great. I’m quite excited about the whole thing,” she said. |
