Man arrested in Jasper after locking self in car

Jasper RCMP had to go in through the window after a man clammed up on Connaught Drive Tuesday.

Pulled over for speeding on the main drag at about 7 p.m., Charles Simpson of Fort Saskatchewan refused to give his name, which is enough for an obstruction charge. He was informed he was under arrest but locked himself in his vehicle.

“Police were forced to break a window on the vehicle in order to remove the driver from it and safely take him into custody,” Const. Patrick Vallee said in a press release.

Simpson is scheduled to appear in Jasper court on May 10 to answer to one count of obstructing a peace officer (Criminal Code) and one count of driving at an unreasonable speed (highway regulations).

The charges against him have not been proven in court.
