The Fitzhugh proudly celebrated its third anniversary this past week.
Heading into year four, the paper has some new staff and a new office location, but our aim to represent the needs of the community prevails.
Our goal is to continue to cover news and events that are important to the people in this town.
In our first issue, we wrote: We believe that the community of Jasper is ready to be represented by a locally owned, politically independent weekly paper. The goal of The Fitzhugh is to present news and comment that is timely and reflects our readers’ values and lives.
We would not have made it this far without help from the people of Jasper. You give us news tips and ideas, you tell us your stories, and your letters prompt dialogue.
We write for our readers; without you we would not exist.
There is nothing more rewarding for the creators of The Fitzhugh to walk into a local café and spot people leafing through the pages of our publication.
The Fitzhugh, as always, welcomes questions, comments and suggestions. We want to hear what you have to say. Feel free to drop by our new office at 626 Connaught Drive, upper level.
We look forward to many anniversaries to come.
Heroes of Jasper
The Jasper Volunteer Fire Brigade is pushing to sell The Fire Within calendars, in which members of the department appear for the month of July.
The calendars are made by a volunteer firefighter/photographer team based in the Calgary area, with the aim of raising funds and awareness for volunteer fire departments, which are often under-funded.
There are a whole bunch of reasons everyone should get one:
They’re full of attractive photography. They’re full of beautiful people.
They spread the message that volunteer firefighters need support.
They probably contain someone you recognize.
Everyone needs a calendar.
They are just $20.
And if these aren’t enough to convince you to pick one up, Jasper’s brigade has decided rather than spend the money on themselves, the funds raised will go to support a local family facing some tough times.
For everything they put into the community, Jasper’s volunteer firefighters truly are heroes. |
