Dance season wraps up Print

Jasper dancers recently wrapped up another successful season, with several dancers posting strong results in a variety of categories.

Jasper Dance Program instructor Nicole Koebel coached about 100 students through the program this season.

Koebel said it’s been a fun year for her, as she’s gotten to work more with Serana Wilson, whose mother Shawnee Wilson was Koebel’s dance teacher.

“It’s come full circle, and Serana really lights up the stage.”

Wilson was partnered with Natalie Allin, who proved to be the team’s most successful dancer. Allin finished her year with a high gold and love of dance award in Airdrie.

“She really stands out. She has amazing stage presence and has a look and energy to her. She’s very eye-catching,” Koebel said. “Natalie has a lot of elements of a great dancer.

Allin has performed well in the lyrical and jazz competitions, and partnered up with Wilson, which impressed Koebel.

“We started the duets for Natalie and Serana. They work really well together. To see them dance together is something special. They’re very aware of each other and they move in synchronicity... naturally they wanted to work together.”

Koebel is encouraging more of her dancers to pursue post-secondary education in the art, and attempts to foster continued love of dance.

“When they’re little, they tell me they just ‘love dancing all day’ and I encourage them,” Koebel said.
