The Hinton Art Club (HAC) treated art enthusiasts to a demonstration of techniques in various media at the Guild on Jan. 28.
“This demo day is specifically to see how many would like a specific course or a mixed media course,” club president Alicia Nielsen said.
The club will celebrate its 40th anniversary Sept. 21-23, dates which they want to correlate with the dedication of the ‘mural mosaic.’
The mural is a 240-panel mosaic measuring 20 feet by 12 feet that was created by people aged two to 92 who painted on individual pieces of wood which were then glued together.
The club wants to synchronize the dedication with the Alberta Federation of Labour’s 100th anniversary.
Members have a strong community commitment whereby they are regular supporters of various clubs and societies with their art donations.
“The HAC annually rewards a Grade 12 student or students a bursary of $150 towards a fine arts career,” Nielsen said.
For $15 per month an artist can display four of his or her paintings or other works for three months in a business place that would like to belong to the art rotation program. A couple of businesses presently in the program are Assante and the Yellowhead Region Educational Consortium.
After three months another artist has a chance to display his or her art work in those establishments or others, and that continues all year long.
The club has monthly meetings, potlucks, and a printing press – something which only about three art clubs in the province can boast. Approximately 25 members belong to the HAC.
DVD art history courses are on Tuesdays for only half an hour at noon, which makes it handy for people on their lunch hour.
Some members do commission work and members donate paintings continually to raise money for other organizations.
Meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Guild, except in June and July. Nielsen may be contacted at 780-865-4853 or me-a-no-d@shaw.ca
“Why not join us? We’d love to have you,” Nielsen said. |
