Guitar trio comes to Valemount Print

photo353.jpgThe Montreal Guitar Trio is another testament to the old adage that all good things come in threes.

“If you want something boring and conventional, please don’t come. But, if you want a great evening and a new experience, come and see three guys knocking the guitars, pulling the strings, singing, and talking with you in a way you never could believe,” said Glenn Levesque of the trio.

Comprised of Levesque, Marc Morin and Sebastien Dufour, the trio will be playing at the Valemount Community Theatre on Feb. 7.

With a decade of work under their belt, Levesque said the trio promise an “eclectic, energetic” night of music from across the globe.

“It brings listeners on a journey from the mysterious, exotic melodies of India to the hot rhythms of South America, Spain, the Balkans, the Orient and traditional Quebec, Beatles and Hollywood,” he said.

Taking listeners on a journey is that much easier at a small venue like the theatre, he added noting that the trio enjoy the opportunity to play to a quiet and listening crowd.

“It’s always a great pleasure. We can play a slow piece, very intimate with a sensitive touch, not too loud – something that we cannot play in front of a large audience,” he said.

The trio enjoys the opportunity to interact with their audience and engage them with their hypnotic music.

“The connection is always more personal and intimate in a small place. We really like that,” he said, “we like talking to people to establish a strong connection between us and them. Also, it helps the people to understand the ‘inside clues’ that we’ll put in the next song.”

For fans of the trio, they’ll be playing mostly tunes from the last CD, MG3, that was released back in 2006.

With the last released four years ago, Levesque said the trio are currently working on a new CD, which will have more “original composition, more voices, more acoustic bass.”

Also in the works is a DVD of a concert in Montreal last year.
