Whiskey Wagon – a band whose music is often described as drunk-folk – will be performing in Jasper Friday night.

The Celtic-influenced folk band from St. Albert will take the stage at the Royal Canadian Legion, along with folk-rockers The Burning Streets and rapper Doobyis.

Whiskey Wagon is a band of many formations, playing shows with as few as one member to as many as seven.

“We’ve kind of developed, over the years, a really easy going attitude to playing and performing our music, so that if somebody feels they can’t make a show, it’s not the end of the world for them,” said Landon Barrowman, the band’s singer-songwriter and guitarist.

When all seven members of the band are together, there are eight instruments, ranging from the accordion to the banjo.

Barrowman said he expects at least six members to make it to the Jan. 6 show in Jasper.

With the band always changing, depending on who can make it to a show, Barrowman said it keeps things interesting.

“I think that’s one reason why we can play so often is ‘cause people never know what they’re going to get from us when they go to a show. They’ve seen us play with three people, with five, they’ve seen us play with two and rarely do they actually catch us play a full seven.”
