Four Jasper teenagers are getting set to rock the McCready Centre for charity this Friday, and they’ve invited a few friends from out of town to join the party.
Jordan Anderson, Allie Diamond, Oliver Andrew and Jeremie Rodger are The Mission, and with a name like that, it’s no wonder that they’ve decided to support Santas Anonymous with this week’s concert.
“We usually do shows all the time, but we haven’t for a while so we thought we’d do it for Santas Anonymous,” said Anderson, who like most of his bandmates is 16 years old.
The Mission haven’t graced a venue in three months and in that time have added a new bass player in Diamond, who is quick to define the band’s sound as “mostly punk rock.”
Coming to Jasper from Edmonton for the evening are City Streets and Girls’ Club. City Streets have a jazzy repetoire, according to the young men of The Mission, while the music of Girl’s Club can be defined as “experimental and hardcore,” according to Anderson.
Joining the organizers and the visitors is another local group with the witty moniker Something Original. This band shares the same sort of punk sound with The Mission.
Doors for the show open at 7:30 p.m. on Friday (that’s tomorrow, December 16) and admission costs a mere $5.
The McCready Centre’s main hall can accomodate about 200 people, Diamond estimates, and the boys are hoping for a good crowd.
Each of the out-of-town bands will pick up about $100 from the take to cover travel and incidentals and the rest goes straight to making Christmas a happier time of year for Jasper’s less fortunate.
So get to the concert this Friday. It’s the punk thing to do. |
